Ironwood Building Systems Proves Energy Efficiency in Design Build Techniques

A few months ago we wrote a brief note about Ironwood Building Systems building a highly energy efficient and environmentally friendly building.  Well the proof is in.  The attached summary outlines the savings and energy costs on a per square foot basis.  From what we can see based on typical Calgary industrial users these utility costs are $0.50 per square foot lower than the typical 15,000 square foot building on an annual basis.  Did the building cost significantly more to build?  We are told that the total cost for this project was $200.00 per square foot.  Considering the building is situated on 2.7 acres of land in the Wagon Wheel Industrial Park this cost is not a huge premium over traditionally designed buildings which are in the $175 to $185 per square foot price range for a building of this size.  I will be catching up with Lyle Schmidt again shortly to go over the typical pay back period for an investment of this nature.
